Our first day - navigating flights

Monday morning we awoke at 5am and by evening we accomplished all the housework and cleaning and tied up odds and ends. My parents took us out for our last meal at the Mexican restaurant. It was so hard to say goodbye!!! We went to sleep at 4pm(kids) and Justin and I laid down at 5pm. Kids and myself were snoring as soon as our heads hit the pillow. I slept until 8pm where I was awakened by Joy yelling "this is better than Christmas Day!!" So I got up. Justin just started to sleep well at 8 so I let him sleep until 11:30 where I couldn't wait any longer. We left the house at one and went to pick up Nana Jo and Pop so that they could drive us to the airport. We checked our five bags and each have a backpack in tow. Security was easy as pie and no one in our party was a threat so we boarded to head to Detroit. This was the first time flying for the kids. They were so excited at take off!! The flight was a little over an hour and we landed in Detroit. We immediately found our gate and sat for a minute. We decided to grab some lunch before getting boarded and we underestimated the length of time to walk to the Subway. Forever!!!! We got there and had the slowest sandwich makers in all of Michigan - in sure of it. I almost pulled my hair out and had to remind myself how blessed we are and I settled down. We are quickly and needed to use the restroom. We are headed back to our gate to literally board immediately when I look over at carefree Eli with no coat or backpack. Ummmmmmm, ELLLLIIIIIII!!!! He had left it in the stall hanging, so back Justin RAN. He got the backpack and coat and we were off running to board in time. Eli will kill us, but darn he is so cute. We got settled on the 777 and quickly thumbed through our movie choices. We were served a nice salad, fruit, roll, brownie and the infamous ginger rice and chicken meal. :-). Delta does treat us well ; they're our favorite airline! The kids seemed to have won over ever atrnedant's heart with their charm and good behavior. We are right by the bathrooms and it is quite handy! We all have dozed, watched movies and twiddled our thumbs. .. except ole Ezra. He hasn't shut his sweet eyes. He has been zoned in on the tv and focusing on the countdown of hours. I don't know how he has done it. Eli, at one time, was sitting in the floor with his head rested on the seat - poor guy! No one has whined once though. You would think we travel the world weekly (except the backpack and coat mishap!). The flight has been dark most of the time since we are flying over the North Pole. The temp outside the plane is a brisk -80 degrees! The flight tracker is so neat the zoom in and out of places on the map. Finding Nanyang and Ordos is the best - my sweet China blessings' hometowns. So bittersweet. So much loss wrapped up into their little lives. How would Joy's birth parents like to know that Joy is visiting. How would Evie's parents like to know that their daughter will be moving to America? They won't.. and that's a hard fact to swallow.

We arrived at the hotel at 4pm and climbed into bed at 5pm only to wake up at 2pm starving. Glad I was served that roach for breakfast... that was yummy! Gag!
